Dewdrop, used in this book, is a metaphor in Zen for the impermanence and fragility of life. Dewdrops are present, pristine, refreshing, and fleeting, reflecting the whole universe in a single, short-lived moment. Also, we are born spacious more than our ego self. We yearn to return to our ocean of innate vastness and magnificence. My poems are like an aged wine or a gourmet dish, written to spark your creativity and passion. They allow you to feel a celebration in your heart, camaraderie, awe, the fleeting nature of life, and compassion that will transform you. You realize that the familiar ego self is a composition or aggregate of your daily experiences, the five skandhas of form (body), feeling, perception, thought, and consciousness. The ego creates an illusion of a separate self, which is the root cause of suffering.These poems allow you to taste and experience them as a journey and memory of human experiences — despair, sadness, joy, and aspirations. The heart-warming words lead you to an almost audible spacious stillness, not recognized before, but innately always present. We ground ourselves first in our spirituality — that our essence is formless and empty, and cannot be shattered and violated. With this assurance, we venture out to help by bearing witness, taking action, and taking care. We must sit — to get in touch with the sacred ground of the magic and mystery of life, to create a space between a stimulus and an impulsive response, and to listen deeply to our body’s pain and the pain of the world. It is our right to sit, and we must sit to claim that right!Sitting enhances us to face, to act, and to shift our perspectives with wise action, from a place of compassion rather than from anger and burnout. Sitting allows us to go deeper into a profound experience. Now that you remember and realize that you are not just a small droplet of water but the spaciousness of the ocean, with waves cresting, billowing, surging on the surface.
